This doesn’t come as a surprise but a recent statement by ZeniMax Online Studios says that they will be focusing on the PC for their upcoming Elder Scrolls Online MMO.
Talking to GameInformer Matt Firor, the head of the studio also mentioned that the possibility of the next generation consoles supporting the game is always there but for now it’s all PC.
The worst thing you can do is worry about new platforms while in development. We want to do what we’re doing right now and then look around for further opportunities.
There are a lot of rumors swirling around the next-gen coming back together with PCs. I haven’t seen any of that, but I read all the rumor sites just like everyone else. It seems like things are going back to a more standard platform. That being said, we haven’t thought about it heavily right now.
On being asked if it was possible to see players from both the PC and Consoles playing the MMO in a single server, Firor said that it relies on the technology and consoles. He went on to remind us that there’s a big reason console MMO’s haven’t done that well when compared to PC.
The reason being that MMOs have been built around the mouse and keyboard controls. While there’s always a way to go around that, PC pretty much dominates the MMO market in this age.
