It seems the F2P model could work on consoles after all…at least from what Sony Online Entertainment boss John Smedley.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Smedley reveals that 70 percent of users in their F2P MMORPG DC Universe Online comes from the PS3.

Smedley also adds that CCP Game’s Dust 514 is one of those games that prove this business model works.

It’s 70 per cent of the audience. Free-to-play on PlayStation 3 is huge…In fact, right now, it’s us with DCUO and Free Realms and our friends at CCP with Dust 514 that are going to prove that this market really works.

Be sure to give the whole interview a read as it dives into the F2P genre and how it can work on consoles.
