Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines have been in development for a long time. So long, in fact, that some people are even wondering if it’s really going to come out.
In saying that, we do have a release date for the game now but that doesn’t mean the devs themselves aren’t thinking of the future.
In an interview with Gamerzines, Senior Producer Brian Burleson admits that the team over on Gearbox is already thinking of a sequel to Colonial Marines.
We’re imagining things – there’s a distinct possibility…We are making the game in such a way that could support certain possibilities, but nothing is certain so we have to leave lots of ground.
So, does this mean we’ll see Aliens vs. Predator or something to that effect? While Burleson was coy, he did reveal that they want to continue with what they started.
I think when people finish playing the game, they’ll definitely want more. We’re not just tagging off the end of the game and saying, ‘That’s the end of the Aliens chronology for this sort of thing’. We want to continue it…
I’m really hoping this doesn’t mean that the game itself won’t have a proper ending…or one that ends on a cliffhanger that alludes to a sequel. Don’t get me wrong, if the game’s good, I’d love for it to have a sequel, but please let the first game have a finality to it, too.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will be out next on February 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
