Dota 2 – Venomancer Skill Builds

Regular Build

  • Level 1 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 2 – Poison Sting (Plague Ward)
  • Level 3 – Plague Ward (Venomous Gale)
  • Level 4 – Plague Ward
  • Level 5 – Plague Ward
  • Level 6 – Poison Nova
  • Level 7 – Plague Ward
  • Level 8 – Venomous Gale (Poison Sting)
  • Level 9 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 10 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 11 – Poison Nova
  • Level 12 – Poison Sting
  • Level 13 – Poison Sting
  • Level 14 – Poison Sting
  • Level 15 – Stats
  • Level 16 – Poison Nova

This is the most common and effective Venomancer build. At level 5, you are able to destroy towers by yourself, as well as having a good lane control.

It will also allow you to kill Roshan pretty early in the game. Sometimes the lane is hard, and you can’t afford to right-click the enemy heroes or want Gale to be strong enough to cancel their salves, in these cases you take an extra level of Gale as demonstrated.

At level 10 you should have Gale and Wards maxed, as well as having a level on Sting for the slow.

Maxed Gale Build

  • Level 1 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 2 – Poison Sting
  • Level 3 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 4 – Plague Ward
  • Level 5 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 6 – Poison Nova
  • Level 7 – Venomous Gale
  • Level 8 – Plague Ward
  • Level 9 – Plague Ward
  • Level 10 – Plague Ward
  • Level 11 – Poison Nova
  • Level 12 – Poison Sting
  • Level 13 – Poison Sting
  • Level 14 – Poison Sting
  • Level 15 – Stats
  • Level 16 – Poison Nova

This skill build is more team fight oriented and can net you multiple kills by hitting Gale and Nova on multiple enemies.

The drawback is that you will only be able to push and defend towers a few minutes later. You still have both skills maxed and a level of Sting on this build though.

Venomancer Recommended items

Starting: Courier, Ring of Protection, Iron Branch, Salve, Tango
Core: Flying Courier, Observer Wards, TPscroll, Boots of Speed, Magic Wand and Ring of Aquila

These are the basic items that Veno needs in the early stages of the game. Ward to keep map control and to help you decide when to push.

Always carry a teleport scroll to help your allies when they get ganked. Sometimes they will give you free kills. Magic Wand and Aquila will make Lich a little stronger, while somewhat covering his mana needs.

Boots Choice: Either Phase, Treads or Arcane
Phase will allow you to position better Gales and to escape/chase. Treads will give you an hp boost as well as the possibility to change boots to get extra mana. Arcane will allow you to spam Gale as well as helping your allies by giving them mana.

Situational: Drum of Endurance, Medallion of Courage, Force Staff, Pipe, Veil of Discord

Drum is a great item that will boost your low hp as well as boost your pushing power. Medallion will help you solo Roshan a lot faster.

Force is awesome when the enemies have melee damage dealers. Pipe has a relatively easy buildup and will help you, and your team survive against enemy nukes.

Veil will make all 3 of your magic spells deal 25% more damage, as well as making your allies deal more magic damage, so it’s awesome.

Luxury: Aghanim Scepter, Manta Style, Scythe of Vyse
Veno shouldn’t be farming for items but if you have the gold, you can get these expensive items.

Venomancer Strategy Tips

Your Gale is one of the best spells to get a First Blood with, at level one you will get a huge slow that lasts a long time. Take advantage of it! Also try to hit more than one target with your gale.

As a famous player once said, if you’re playing Veno and Plague Wards are not on cooldown, you are playing  a bad Veno. Spam your wards once you have them at a decent level.

Control the wards, use them to help you last hit and deny, as well as harass the enemy hero. Use them on the high ground and on corners at the jungle to avoid nasty surprises, use them on the lane to make the enemies think twice about getting close to the creeps, use them in ward spots to grant vision on the map.

Learn when to push the lane. If an enemy leaves the lane for some reason, immediately go on the offensive and pressure their tower. If the enemy is pushing your tower, place defensive wards around your tower or base.

One neat trick you can do with the wards is to place them on the rune spots, if a rune spawns and an enemy is about to get them, control your ward to destroy the rune.

Another neat trick is to place yourself in choke spots in the jungle and close the exit with a Plague Ward. The enemies have to go through the ward to get you so you can tp out, and if it’s a melee hero, you can even attack him without retaliation. Manage your mana pool so that you can always have Gale and Ulti ready to use in case of a team fight.

Often in team fights enemies will try to focus you down before you use your ultimate, position yourself behind allies that can soak up more damage than you and save your ultimate till when you can hit 3 or more heroes.

Have fun playing the venomous one !
