Most Pirated Games Of 2011 – PC Games Don’t Have Any Match

By   /   Jan 1, 2012

For many publishers, piracy has become a nightmare as they see people across the globe accessing their product via illegal ways. PC is the most notorious among all the major gaming platforms and the stats for most pirated games in 2011 tell no different stroy. TorrentFreak has posted the following stats highlighting the most pirated games in 2011 on all the major gaming platforms.

PC
1. Crysis 2 – 3,920,000
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – 3,650,000
3. Battlefield 3 – 3,510,000
4. FIFA 12 – 3,390,000
5. Portal 2 – 3,240,000

Wii
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 1,280,000
2. Mario Sports Mix – 1,090,000
3. Xenoblade Chronicles – 950,000
4. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean – 870,000
5. FIFA 12 – 860,000

Xbox 360
1. Gears of War 3 – 890,000
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – 830,000
3. Battlefield 3 – 760,000
4. Forza Motorsport 4 – 720,000
5. Kinect Sports: Season Two – 690,000

PS3 stats aren’t mentioned because the numbers are too low as compared to the other platforms. Great job, i would say. Anyways, the numerals above are not surprising as most of the best titles on the respective platforms are on the list. Crysis 2 has earned the title of most pirated game of 2011. No wonder as the game was available on different torrent sites one month before the official release. Why MW3 isn’t at the top despite being the most selling game of 2011? It’s because the multiplayer cannot be accessed via pirated copies.

Whatever happened in 2011 is history now and 2012 is full of excitement too. Let’s see if the developers and the publishers can do anything about this rapidly increasing threat or the piracy will dominate yet again?
