Skyrim has many houses and dungeons that can store your treasure instead of carrying it. The larger cities have houses of different sizes, costs, and quality that you can purchase, and there is no limit to how many homes you own in the game.

Breezehome

Location: Whiterun, 2nd building on the right side after Warmaidens

House Cost: 5,000 Gold

Upgrade Cost: 1,800 Gold

Prerequisites: Complete the “Bleak Falls Barrow” to get this house

To purchase the house, head to Dragon’s Reach and talk to Proventus Avenicci; you can also ask him to decorate your house. The house can be upgraded by purchasing an alchemy lab or furnishing the rooms; every purchase will cost you 1,800 gold.

Hjerim

Location: Northwest corner of the city, opposite of the house of Cruel Sea

House Cost: 12,000 Gold

Upgrade Cost: 10,250 Gold

Prerequisites: Complete the ‘Blood on the Ice’ and ‘Civil War’ questline

You will get this house from Jorleif for 12,000 gold. This house has the most prominent weapon armory and features like Alchemy and enchanting stations. You can have the following furnishing: kitchen (1000 gold), bedroom (1000 gold), living room (1500 gold), Alchemy laboratory (1500 gold), Enchanting laboratory (1500 gold), and armory for (2000 gold). The total price of the house and the upgrades is 20,500 gold.

Honeyside

Location: Take a right as you enter Riften; the house will be at the end of the corner

House Cost: 8,000 Gold

Upgrade Cost: 5,000 Gold

Prerequisites: Complete the ‘Skooma Trade’ and help 5 NPCs in the city

Compete the Skooma Trade and talk to Wujeeta, she will tell you regarding the dealer from whom you can buy the house in Riften. Take the information to the Jarl Laila Low-Giver, complete the given quests, and help the NPCs. Once you’re done, the house becomes available for you to purchase.

The house features an Alchemy lab, an Arcane Enchanter, and a Tanning Rack. It also possesses the following space,

Proudspire Manor

Location: Next to Skyrim Faction Bards College, Solitude

House Cost: 25,000 Gold

Upgrade Cost: 11,000 Gold

Prerequisites: Complete ‘The Man Who Cried Wolf’ and ‘Elisif’s Tribute’

This is one of the most expensive houses, and it is a three-storey building near the Blue Palace in Skyrim. Complete the prerequisite quests and talk to Falk Firebeard, who will sell the house to you. This house has an additional cost of 11,000 gold for the upgrades, including an enchanting table, alchemy station, children’s room, mannequins, and weapon rack.

Severin Manor

Location: Next to Skyrim Faction Bards College, Raven Rock

House Cost: Free

Upgrade Cost: N/A

Prerequisites: Complete ‘March of the Dead,’ ‘The Final Descent,’ and ‘Served Cold’ quests

Once in Solstheim, enter Raven Rock, move East to Old Attius’ Farm, save Captain Veleth, and complete the ‘March of the Dead’ quest. Next, retrieve Gratian Carellius’s Journal and complete the ‘Served Cold’ quest. After all three quests end, find Adril and follow him to the Councilor Morvayn to receive your reward.

The house has no upgrades and comes with basic storage, a smeltery, an alchemy station, and an enchanting table.

Vlindrel Hall

Location: Enter Markarth and turn right toward the steep stairs. Keep going in the same direction, and you will find the house next to Nepos house.

House Cost: 8,000 Gold

Upgrade Cost: 3,900 Gold

Prerequisites: Complete the quests given by Jarl Igmund, including the ‘Recover Hrolfdir’s Shield.’

Head to Marquart’s, keep near the back end of the city near a large waterfall and talk to Jarl Igmund. Please help him by completing his quests. After completing the quests, Raerek will give you the key to Vlindrel Hall for 8,000 Gold, and upgrades will cost you 3,900 for a children’s room and 4,200 for an alchemy lab. Heljarchen Hall

Location: North of Loreius Farm and West of Blizzard Rest, The Pale

House Cost: 5,000 Gold

Hold: Dawnstar

Purchased from: Jarl Skald or Jarl Brina Merilis

Prerequisites: Complete ‘Walking Nightmares’ and ‘Kill the Giant’ quests

This is one of the homestead houses added to Skyrim as part of the Hearthfires DLC. You need to reach level 22 and complete the quests given by Jarl of Dawnstar. Once the prerequisites are completed, talk to Skald or Brina Merilis in The White Halls and get the plot for 5,000 Gold to build the Heljarchen Hall. You can also construct a grain mill on this land instead of a house.

Lakeview Manor

House Cost: 5,000 Gold

Hold: Falkreath

Purchased from: Nenya or Tekla

Prerequisites: Become the Thane, complete ‘Rare Gifts’ and ‘Kill the Bandit Leader’ quests, or take over Falkreath and gift it to the Stormscloaks during the ‘Civil War’ questline

Complete one of the above prerequisites to purchase the Lakeview Manor plot for 5,000 Gold. You can also construct an apiary here to harvest honey.

Windstad Manor

Location: Between the Abandoned Shacks and High Gate Ruins, Hjaalmarch

House Cost: 5,000 Gold

Hold: Morthal

Purchased from: Aslfur or Pactur

Prerequisites: Complete the ‘Laid to Rest’ quest

Once you complete the ‘Laid to Rest’ quest for Jarl, you can purchase this land and build a house or fish hatchery to breed and harvest fish.
