Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is certainly looking like a great game, one that adds so much more to an already successful formula. But no one really expected the term ‘first-person’ to ever make it into the series.

Well, they say that you should expect the unexpected, because there will be first-person missions in Revelations. These sections will help series regular Desmond Miles come out of his coma, which he fell into at the end of Brotherhood.

These missions will reveal a great deal about Desmond’s past, and the past analogy for it is ‘Inception’. Speaking to SPOnG, design director Falco Poiker described these missions:

He’s trapped in his own mind. Our best comparison is Inception – Desmond is in a dreamland, but is able to access Ezio’s memories. Ezio in turn then goes and accesses Altaïr’s memories.

It’s definitely a departure, and very cool I think. You get a lot of information about Desmond and his backstory by completing these. Where he came from, what his life is like… the artwork and surroundings are very surreal and symbolic of his life.

Mind you, these aren’t your average first-person missions. Poiker says that these are sort of strange platforming missions, which can only be understood once played.

Additionally, Poiker also hinted that players will encounter a familiar face in these missions, who Desmond can interact with.

There’s a character you’ll meet in the Animus that you’ll be able to talk to… there’s been hints about this character before.

Funny how Subject 16 keeps coming into my mind.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations comes out next week for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
