Battlefield 3 Crashes, Lag, Stuttering, Low FPS, Graphics, Origin and Fixes

You can always expect few loose ends when a blockbuster game launches so be ready to give some time to developers to fix all the outstanding issues with the game that gamers are experiencing.
Battlefield 3 is no different and even after the lengthy beta, has few loose ends that would be tightened soon. Wait would kill you so if you are experiencing any of these issues, you can temporary fix them by following the workarounds we have listed.
They shouldn’t be taken as permanent fix but for the time, until DICE releases a patch or updates Battlefield 3.
1# Doesn’t Install From Disc
When you put the Disc and try to install the game, Origin will start and try to download the game. Now, it may seem at first, it is downloading from the internet but in fact, it is downloading from the disc you put inside your disc drive.
If you have fast enough disc drive, it wouldn’t take long.
2# Looping Audio and Chopping – Audio Lag
If you are experiencing random audio lag and a transitional state between smooth and laggy gameplay, you may want to run the game in Stereo or you can go into sound manager settings and set the sound quality to 44K. You can do that by going into your playback devices > speaker properties > advanced. It will be drop down menu.
3# You should be logged-in as Administrator to Run This
If you come across this error, run origin as admin and re-launch the game using it. Or make a new admin account and install the game using it. Make sure you have user account control disabled in OS (Win7).
4# Low Performance On High-end graphics Card
If you are only experiencing issues with Battlefield 3 while all other games run fine on your high-end card, you should delete your old drivers and install the latest drivers – 285.62 Nvidia.
5# Game Won’t Start
Make sure you aren’t blocking the game. Disable your security programs and run Origin as admin. If possible, add BF3 exe to use admin privileges to start.
6# Release Check and Re-install
If Origin asks you to re-install the game again after you have already downloaded and installed the game. You may want to try repairing the game first.
7# Battlefield 3 Stopped Working
Repair your damn game
– Go into your Origin Client, right-click BF3, click Repair Install, and it will re-download and re-install the game with new patches and updates.
8# Can’t Log-in to Battlog.net
Make sure you haven’t added Battlelog dot net to trusted services in IE. Pull Battlelog out of trusted sites list and re-try. Or you can try using a different browser.
9# Origin Not Installed When Try To Install Battlefield 3
While you have origin installed. Fix is to manually uninstall origin and do a fresh install. To manually uninstall Origin, you will need to edit your system registry and remove the folders in a two-part process. This will remove all traces of Origin from your system.
To remove all the game folders:
- Open My Computer.
- Open your hard drive (by default, Originis installed on theC drive).
- Open the Program Files folder (Program Files (X86 for 64-bit).
- Right-click on theOriginfolder and choose Delete.
- A “Confirm Folder Delete ” window will appear; choose Yes.
Also in the Program Files folder, go to the InstallShield Installation Information. *If you cannot find this folder you may have to go to Tools > Folder Settings and click the setting to “SHOW hidden folders “.
- Right-click on the{EF7E931D-DC84-471B-8DB6-A83358095474} entry and choose Delete.
- A “Confirm Folder Delete” window will appear; choose Yes.
- When the folder is deleted, close the window.
- Right-click on yourRecycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Now you can remove the registry keys for the game:
- Click on Start and then click on Run…
- In the text line type regedit, then click OK.
- Click on File and then Export…
- Choose a location and name for the file (this will be your backup registry file).
- Click Save.
The next steps will all be performed in the left pane of the Registry Editor window:
- Click on the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
- Click on the + next to SOFTWARE.
- For 64-bit systems, this should be Wow6432Node
- Click on the + next to Electronic Arts.
- Right-click onEA Corefolder and choose Delete.
- Click on the + next to Microsoft.
- Click on the + next to Windows.
- Click on the + next to Current Version.
- Click on the + next to Uninstall.
- Right-click on{EF7E931D-DC84-471B-8DB6-A83358095474}and choose Delete.
- A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
If you also need to remove the cache associated with Origin, please do the following:
- Open My Computer.
- Double-click the C drive. (By default, this is where the cache folder is created. If you previously specified a different location for the cache folder, you will need to delete that custom folder.)
- Double-click the ProgramData folder.
- Double-click the Electronic Arts folder.
- Right-click on Originand choose Delete.
- A “Confirm Folder Delete” window will appear; choose Yes.
Origin has now been completely removed from your system.
10# Battlefield 3 Has Stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly
Servers are over-loaded. I know you want to play the game but give developers a chance to adjust themselves to the unprecedented demand of the game. It will get fixed soon, probably sooner than our anticipation. It is one of those general day 1 issues.
11# Battlefield 3 Random Crashes
If your game is randomly crashing, repair the game – it will install an update which will resolve the issues that cause these crashes.
12# Battlefield 3 Graphics Bugs and Glitches
Before you jump into the game, make sure you have updated your video card drivers.
13# Kicked By Administrator – Punkbuster Fix
If you are getting random kicks out of the server with this message, you should know that Punkbuster is trolling you, unless you are cheating. You can fix it by following the workaround below:
- Go into your Origin games directory (mine was C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games)
- Copy the “pb” folder and the “pbsvc.exe” from the “Battlefield 3 BETA” folder, and pasted it in my “Battlefield 3″ folder.
- Run the pbsvc.exe (it might be unnecessary but I did it anyway).
Restart the game and have fun!
14# Battlefield 3 Stutter Fix
Turn off Intel Hyper Threading in Bios to fix the issue. You will find the option to disable/enable Hyper Threading in Bios. If that sounds a bit scary, you can wait for DICE to resolve it in the next patch.
You can also try to run the game with one-cpu. I mean run the game by setting the affinity to one CPU. Open your Task Manager, click on the Battlefield 3 process and then on Set Affinity. Select only one CPU from the available and Press OK!/Apply.
Setting either of these settings can have diverse effects, good or bad. So try it if you know what you are doing.
15# Low Performance, Low Framerates
Again, if you have good enough system but are experiencing low performance than usual, you should try turning off Intel Hyper Threading in Bios or run the game with affinity set to 1. It would make the frame rates constant and remove the stuttering that you may experience in the single and multiplayer constantly otherwise.
16# How To Switch Back to Default Settings After a Screw-Up
Oh, this is important for most of us. We like to tweak around with new games in our attempt to optimize them to run perfect on our systems. In this attempt sometime we screw it up and the result is inability to start the game.
If this happens with Battlefield 3, delete the settings folder in my documents/battlefield 3 to reset to defaults and start fresh.
17# Battlefield 3 Crashes and Locks Up
Repair the game. Fix the installed game ^
18# 3D Vision Support
Wait for the patch – Battlefield 3 doesn’t support it on launch but will be after a patch as the engine is built to support 3D technology.
19# Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Controller Support
Will be fixed down the road – That’s what the developer said.
20# Battlefield 3 Input Lag Fix
Go into nvidias control panel and set vsync to force off and max prerendered frames to 0.
21# Origin Network Couldn’t Be Reached
This issue may be caused by Winsock corruption and developer suggested, you can fix it by following the instructions below:
- Click on Start button.
- Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
- Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request. (you can right-click on the cmd.exe program and select “Run as Administrator” – that’s more direct).
- Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
- Restart the computer.

26# Online Pass Check Failed – How To Add
Go to store, press triangle and it will let you input your code. Don’t try it when you are on Vodka/Tequila.
27# You Are Not Allowed To Log-in Battlelog
Because servers are too busy. No big deal, would be resolve by the next time you try, after waiting half a day.
28# My Weapons’ are not Visible When I respawn
Console specific. To resolve it, restart your console.
29# Battlefield 3 Lag Fix – Performance Issues
There can be several reason for the lag to occur when you are playing Battlefield 3. We can only snipe the general issues, so first, update your Nvidia and ATI graphics card drivers.
Close all background applications and hope, your internet connection isn’t the cause. If you end up troubleshooting your internet connection, refer to this guide.
30# Battlefield 3 Random Disconnects
Update your Punkbuster Manually. You can read the instructions here. Steps are:
- Download the PBSetup utility.
- Run it.

33# Game Freezes Then Crash To Desktop With ‘Stopped Working’ Error
Make sure you don’t have nVidia control panel or ATI Tray Tools FPS overlay enabled, exit the app to fix this issue.
34# Sluggish / Unresponsive Mouse
- Go here: C:\Users\YOU\Documents\Battlefield 3\settings
- Open PROF_SAVE_profile with notepad++ (can download for free)
Change the following variables:
GstInput.MouseSensitivity 0.050000
1st one is the normal mouse sensitivity. These variables can be edited to fix the mouse responsiveness:
- GstInput.Scheme0Sensitivity 0.000000
- GstInput.Scheme1Sensitivity 0.000000
- GstInput.Scheme2Sensitivity 0.000000
35# How To Play Battlefield 3 Using Steam Overlay
- Disable Origin’s overlay (click the gear/cog and go to the “in game” settings tab).
- In Steam, add Origin.exe as a non-steam game to your library.
- Launch the Origin shortcut from your Steam library, then launch BF3.
36# Long Map Load Times – Slow Loading Battlefield 3
- Open / Run: regedit.
- Navigate to: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WoW6432Node/EA Games
- Change the GDFBinary & InstallDir paths to C:Program Files (x86)Origin GamesBattlefield 3
- Try to launch the game and join game servers, and it should work.
Alternatively, you can buy a SSD drive, install BF3 & origin on there.

“2# Looping Audio and Chopping – Audio Lag”
Try the said workarounds. It may work, but this issue is pending developer’s attention. I will get back to you when I have more.
No game, is worth this much aggrivation..no wonder consoles are kicking PC games’ asses.
oh and thank you for the fixes.
Where do I got to \repair\ battlefield? I am having the issue of my game crashing in between games.
Origin Client.
or might be refresh rate problem like mine
black screen shows up everytime game launches, any ideas?
Are you hearing sound ? It may be because you are launching the game in resolution and refresh rate greater than what your monitor can support.
I’m having the same problem, black screen for multiplayer and splash screen with the APC for campaign
I have this exact same problem. I would love to find a fix. I know my computer can handle the game and my monitor is brand new 27 inch samsung.
Anyone figure out how to fix this? I’m tempted to get a new video card but if that doesn’t fix it I would be so mad.
Oh and I’m hearing sound but no game.
No Sound and Black Screen Right ? It could be resolution issue – changing resolution and refresh by editing the config would fix it.
Don’t go for the card just yet.
So I figured out the issue. Thanks for the lead on the settings but it ended up being a dead end.
It has to do with a problem with the game language being different the windows 7 language. After re-installing the language packs it worked perfectly.
Hope this helps those frustrated with this problem. See you in the game
I have serious problem, I have reinstalled origin and battlefield 2 time, and repaired it and checked for updates, but when I try and run it origin says there is a problem with your game setup. Please reinstall your game. I know other people had problems like this withe the beta and I am running vista 64 bit. Can someone please help
I was getting that error during the beta. Make sure you update your internet explorer and all windows updates. I have read that for some reason, IE needs to be updated for the initial run of battlelog. Give it a shot; it worked for me.
This is exactly why i stopped fucking with PC games… You spend more time dicking around with settings and troubleshooting then playing the fucking game.
Actually many of these problems are being seen on xbox and ps3 unfortunately.
I totally agree, its sickening.. spend all the money on the PC to play it and end up with nothing but problems…
Not getting a repair option for Origin either. Should I try uninstalling bf3?
ah, this is my firs time starting pc gaming, going strait back to console
So i have installed battlefiled 3 but when it is done it keep saying “ready to install”. So i did it again and when it was done it said the same thing.
hi i am having trouble with refresh rate i think i set to 1360×768 60hz and it changes to 85 when game playing at random points so drops to 1024×768 85 as my monitor (tv) only does 1360×768 60hz max its driving me mad. i have amd phenom2 3.4ghz 8gbram gtx260 all up to date
right click on the BF3 icon in the orgins app, the repair option will be there.
Thank you!!!!
Okay, so the problem I’m having is that everytime I start the campaign, I get a black screen and no sound or anything and it says Battlefield 3tm has stopped working. Could the fact, that the servers are overloaded, have any effect on singleplayer too? I already tried repairing the game, but it didnät work.
#33 may help.
I preordered Battlefield 3 and downloaded it as the electronic edition, Limited Edition. I was playing it yesterday when all of a sudden it froze, then when i pressed my computer power off button, a Blue screen came up saying something about Kernel data something, not sure. I opened battlefield 3 today, except it says that my computer does not have it installed, and when i pretty for it to install, it doesnt do anything.
I meant to say press* not pretty
Hi Guys I’m having issue with Battlefield running on my windows Vista X64 machine. I initially get an error that game failed to launch and after a few more tries it says the game is not installed properly please re-install the game. Now the only error I have in the application log references BF3 failing to create a restore point on install and the patch is the local C: drive with a bit of jibberish. Now the troubleshooting steps I’ve tried so far are to uninstall and re-install all the 2005, 2008 and 2010 C++ redistributable and I’ve tried running a repair and re-install as well with no success. I’ve all ready updated my nvidia drivers and ran a directx update.
My PC Specs are
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor
4 Gigs DDR 2 memory
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked 320 MB
2 Seagate Barracuda Sata 2 drives
Any input you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated
So does that #33 mean that I have to disable somekind of a overlay from nvidia controlpanel? I’m not sure how to do it.
Can’t seem to clear key/mouse bindings. Pressing and holding ESC does nothing to clear the selected binding. Which means that my left shift key is now bound to about 50 actions! Resetting to default seems to be the only cure.
If anyone is having the “We’re sorry, an error has occurred. There’s a problem with your game’s setup. Please reinstall your game.
#7 doesnt work
i have a different problem. bc3 start to freezes after 5-10 min of play, like the ram is full, this is happened with high medium or low settings…
Here’s the HTT bug captured in video:
HTT ON: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlnoTRxCljY
HTT OFF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNjKrtG4q4Y
I installed the game and origin via disc. Origin says my game is up to date but battle log is saying update is available.
whenever i click on update , it sends me to the store to buy it.
WHAT SHOULD I DOO??
How do you tamper with the nvidia overlay? I’m getting the problem at 33# but I don’t understand the solution
does anyone else have the problem were quite alot of times your battlefield will freeze then a blue screen of death would appear ?
any work arounds ?
i tried repairing game no luck
Samething here, so far, nothing fixes it.
How much RAM do you have?
The graphics is very bugged here. The ground is much darker than it should be and there are many squares around on the ground which is much lighter than the rest. Any help?
Ok another problem on xbox360 my campaign keeps getting corrupted ive deleted it and restarted it multiple times but still i get corrupted data
I keep getting corrupted data on the xbox with campaign i tried to delete the campaign save file and redo it but after that it sais its corrupted again
I appreciate the fixes..but damn your grammar is atrocious. First/Last time to the site. Tally ho.
when i try to download the game it syas bf3 error This game needs an updated version of Windows before it can be installed into. look at the system and update the operating system before you installed into this game.
My Problem is that I have installed the game, fixed/repaired and updated it, ran it as administrator, but still every time it tells me when I launch it that \we’re sorry an error has occurred\ \there is a problem with your games setup please reinstall your game\ I have also reinstalled my game twice but it doesn;t fix anything. HELP PLEASE
FASTER GRAPHICS BY UNPLUGGING LOGITECH G15 KEYBOARD: I have a LOGITECH G15 Keyboard and I’m running on Win7 Ultimate 32 bit.
Even though I had the latest WIN 7 drivers and G-keys profile software installed for the G15 keyboard, the BF3 game environment and Origin overlay were sluggish. The game would sometimes not start and freeze until you unplugged the G15 k/board.
I didn’t notice the difference until I unplugged and uninstalled the Logitech G15 keyboard completely and plugged in a normal Microsoft USB Keyboard. I then noticed a TREMENDOUS improvement (of at least 10x) in graphics responsiveness and speed in BF3. I hope this discovery might help someone else!
This has not solved the intermittent crashes, but the game environment is MUCH faster now.
So if I start a game of BF3, 50% it will crash or get white screen.. If I’m lucky enough to get into a game, after it has ended it says how much xp you’ve earned etc etc. After the 45 sec waiting thing when it about to start loading the next map it wil crash.. So I haven’t been able to play non-stop for 1 hour because it will ALWAYS crash. Here it says I need to repair it at origin, I repaired it 3 times, without any succes. First game I tried, it crashed.
stutter fix!
this works :
You can also try to run the game with one-cpu. I mean run the game by setting the affinity to one CPU. Open your Task Manager, click on the Battlefield 3 process and then on Set Affinity. Select only one CPU from the available and Press OK!/Apply.
AND VSYNC OFF IN GAME, IN CATALYST VSYNC ALWAYS ON, AND TRIPLE BUFFERING ENABLED, catalyst 10.11 preview 3, all these hints resolve stutters, waiting for a patch that will use in the right way all cores without create stutters. i have amd phenom2 x2 550 3.10 , 4gb ram, amd radeon hd4670 1gb
I´m just gonna wait for the game to be properly patched.
Seems to me there´s a lot of hype, but no serious compatibility testing was given to the PC version.
THE SOLUTION IS HERE (at least a part of it)
Hello All,
I have BF3 since a few days and have experienced minor glitches but none like today, I had to take my laptop to another room at home and took my wireless keyboard and mouse with me. Normally they are plugged to an multi-usb device which is plugged to my laptop and the game run smoothly.
But this time I had to plug the wireless usb key directly to my laptop, since I did that the game keeps crashing after 5 minutes of gameplay, the weapon also disappear from the screen and the sound is sometimes totally missing and stuttering.
So the solution is :
DON’T use a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse!!! Use a regular keyboard and mouse… or plug them to an external usb port like me and you will avoid many issues.
FRANS PIETERSE talks about it a bit higher in the posts.
Hello,
been experiencing the same prob.
I join the server, play for like 5 – 15 minutes, the it suddenly turns black with no sound.
Ive got a realtek sound card, Ive got overclocked GPU…. I only tried it tomorow for a quickie, but I am FED UP with this !!
My system completely meets the requireents, bought the game yesterday and played like 20 minutes in 6 hours !!
I am working now, but when i get home, i will try to underclock?(Or overclock) my GPU.
If i post you which model I have tonight will someone be able to tell me if I have to underclock or over ?
Thanks a lot in advance. Really want to play the game, THAT’S WHY I PAID FOR IT !!
Forgot to mention that I also use Logitech MX1000 cordless laser mouse, do you think the random game crashing occurs REALLY because of the wirelles mouse
That would be the greatest joke I heard for a long time ….
That may look like a joke, but honestly that is what I experience. When I plug the USB key for the wireless straight to my computer I experience the crashes etc… but when I plug it through a multi-usb port I don’t have the problem. Just try it and let us know.
But for me, this is working fine!
Is there any fix for this?:
This is one of thousands of bugs I’ve been trying to solve…
Ok so I’m there playing(after 2 or more hours trying to log in a game) and out of nothing my screen becomes semi-white(like if I had a light in-game but I can still see the HUD) or it just goes underground(yes, under the map, I can see the objects on the floor but from under the map) and then the screen freezes, for a moment it turns black(saying no video entry on monitor) and then it comes back to life but the game is minimized do desktop and I can’t enter it again(only end the process) or else, instead of that, the screen goes black(no “no video entry” messsage) and game closes(game manager says Something happened(undefined)).
PS: Game was running with other crashes 1 day before today. Thiscrash is new.
Hey Bro I have been having this same problem as of today February 17th 2012. It happens to me exactly as you describe. Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Please let me know as I cannot play any single game cause the game crashes every.single.time.
Please let me know if you can!
Regards,

Hey, guys I was wondering if my card would be to old to play battlefield3, my specs for my pc are Intel Pentium 3.4 duo core, 4gb ram, radeon hd 4850 1gb. The game runs ok, but im getting audio lag which i sorta fixed with number #2. My main problem is if i get out into open areas my gun vanishes till the lag is over. my Internet connection is fine, im getting a ping of 100.
It can be bad drivers or you may behind the proxy making you lag so much as to vanish your gun. It’s a hit and trial… try to minimize the possibilities to snipe the problem.
Problem is i ran the Bad company on high settings no problem, and i just updated the drivers for my card. Do you think the card could be the problem? I just added to more gigs of ram, which sorta helped with the loading problems. Running Windows 7 pro, and it says nothing needs to be updated.
What would you consider a bad proxy? I ran battle bad company on high settings with same setup and no lag or stuttering. What would be a another alternative?
Those drivers could be a problem, try to downgrade the drivers to previous version and see if that helps.
ill try that, thank you zawad.
My BF3 was running perfectly early today, with no problems at all. I’ve got a GeForce GT555M and run it on Medium with the latest drivers. And then, all of a sudden, when I get into a game everything is extremely slow. Sprinting is like walking and firing is stuttery.
Can anybody explain why this may have happened? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
“38# Battlefield 3 PC Lockup and Freeze With Looping Audio”
Damn the programmers of this game should be fired if their only fix to the problem is “buy new soundcard”. Fucking expensive game.
since about three weeks ago battlefield 3 has started to become a bit laggy. It’s not (full on laggy) if that makes sense. like when I run, after about 5 seconds ill see myself stop suddenly but the character will still be running and then itll carry on as normal, shooting is fine. aircraft’s jump back every so often also. I’m not experiencing this with other games? Internet is fine. can anyone help? does anyone know what could be the problem?

Hi iv’e got a problem thanks to the bf3 installation, i was installing the game with the disc:s and i had enought memory to install it (like 20 gig or something) left on my c:/. hardrive, i installed it untill i inserted disc 2 and then it acted up so i ”aborted it” now i can’t reinstall it because those files ”already installed” for bf3 is still left on my computer and i don’t know where find them and delete them or make the damn installation continue from where it acted up” so now i can’t reinstall it due to the discspace(wich is now only 8 gig left)
If your getting the blue screen of death.. that is most of the time due to a driver fault error. you need to make sure you have the most up to date drivers. I see this a lot and sometimes its not easy to find what driver is causing the crash and dump. I would advise if you to check the brands site for updates. if your still not sure how to do this find someone local that knows how to help you.
Hi,
If you have a asus card, try to uninstall ‘gamerOSD’, it worked for me
Hey guys, I got my BF3 last xmas, and when I installed the game, it went fine, I tried it out a few times and it was ok. My rig can play it on MED-HIGH. and its default settings were med. At first I didn’t even bother playing BF3 since I took a rest in FPS and played RPGs. But after getting fed up with RPGs, then thats when I decided to play bf3. But just recently, when I play the game, there’s this kind of lag or stuttering. I think it’s not the fps or something. Cause for example when I walk, there’s this stupid moment where it stutters every now and then. Seems like my pc is getting smacked by something that makes it stutter like that
Even when I put it in LOW settings. this still happens. Could this be because of my rig? or do I just need to re install it? Tnx
My rig
Athlon II x2 250 OCed to 3.4ghz
4gb ddr3 ram
Radeon HD5670 1gb GDDR5
But I don’t think its my rig. Gonna upgrade my pc to 6core phenom, and crossfire with another 5670 so if the problem persist, I need to get a shotgun and blow my head off
