Anarchy Reigns – Everything You Need to Know

Anarchy Reigns is being developed by Bayonetta developer Platinum Games and published by Sega. It is a game mostly described as an online action combat game and a third-person multiplayer brawler, with violent combination of leggy cyborgs, berserker mutants, tsunamis, black holes, with carpet bombing in a postapocalyptic city.

Online multiplayer action has groups of players Going at each other across large areas while natural and unnatural disasters wreak havoc around them. Anarchy’s producer Inaba-san Said:

“It’s basically a fighting game but with not only a couple of characters fighting each other.”

on Another Instance Inaba-San Said:

“It’s essentially a fighting game, so you could compare it to other traditional fighting games; but again, there’s more than one enemy, you’ll be engaging with many different enemies – some of them might attack you from behind – so it wouldn’t be fair for a user to have to master all the intricate systems for special combos and Consequently, we’ve simplified a lot compared to more traditional fighting games, so it’s probably fair to say that it’s somewhere in-between those fighting games and the likes of Bayonetta.”"

Alongside the chainsaw brandishing protagonist “Jack”, two more characters have been revealed so far: Matilda, who’s towering tetsubo transforms into a vicious spiked whip, and Blacker Baron, who returns (in Inaba-san’s words) badder, bigger, and blacker than before, using his Fists of Fire to unleash flaming shoryukens and crushing moves, Zero, a dual-katana wielding ninja and Sasha, an ice-maiden with a frosty elemental weapon.

Features

Anarchy Reigns is an attempt to introduce a new genre into the online competitive multiplayer space. In addition to the main competitive multiplayer mode, a co-op survival mode is also available, which has players teaming up to take out waves of AI Enemies. Each round releases progressively more challenging opponents, from enormous axe-wielding lizard men, to brigades of futuristic soldiers that can summon machine-gun carrying reinforcements in the middle of a battle.

• Besides the competitive Battle Royal mode,there is also a cooperative Survival Mode. This pits a team of players against waves of enemies in a Horde/Firefight-style situation, only with a hand-to-hand combat focus.
• Set is a postapocalyptic, deserted city.
• Modified Characters that have unique appearances and abilities.
• A variety and unpredictable fighting experience through the means of “Action Trigger Events,” or ATEs. These are large-scale environmental effects that can have a significant effect on the battle.
• ATEs can also summon NPC monsters into the arena to cause additional havoc for players. It wasn’t clear if ATEs are triggered by players or whether they simply happen semi-randomly throughout a match.
• The combat isn’t limited to a single plane, there is a  fair amount of vertical freedom, characters can leap off the top of tall buildings and land on people below providing one possibility for surprise attacks. Players can also pick up and manipulate elements of the environment.

Anarchy Reigns is an online mishmash of cyborg gladiators; frantic, free-for-all battles; computer-controlled enemies and spectacular disruptive events.  Judging by this, those who enjoyed the over-the-top, fast-paced combat of Bayonetta will find a lot to like in Anarchy Reigns.

Anarchy Reigns is slated for release in the 3rd Quarter of 2011 on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
