Dead Space 2 Errors, Crashes, Freezes, and Save Fix
Dead Space 2 is a direct sequel to the heart pounding Visceral survival horror shooter by EA. If you have run into problems while playing the game, refer to the troubleshooting guide below for workarounds.
Dead Space 2 Errors, Crashes, Freezes, and Fixes
1# Unable to Run Dead Space 2
You Double clicked the executable, a dos prompt shows up for a brief second, then nothing happens. Dos prompt may or may not show up. First try this –
- Click Start or press the Windows key and Right click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- Click on Startup.
- Select disable All.
- Click on Services.
- Check the box that says Hide All Microsoft Services, then Disable All.
- Apply, then restart your system.
If that doesn’t work, Go to your device manager, and under ‘Human Interface Device’, right click on ‘HID Compliant Game Controller’ and disable game controller. Don’t disable the whole thing as it may disable your mouse also. Go to properties and select devices other than your mouse and disable them.
Can’t access Dead Space 2 PC Menu After Press Any Key to Continue Screen
If you are on XP, go to C:/Documents and Settings/Your_User_Name/Local Settings/Application Data/Electronic Arts/Dead Space/
If you are on Windows 7 / Vista, go to C:/Users/User Name/AppData/Local/Electronic Arts/Dead Space
Note: If you can’t find the AppData folder, enable “show hidden folder”.
Now open the settings.txt file – find and remove these lines:
Window.Top = 0
Window.Left = 0
Save changes and launch the game again. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.
2# DLC Weapons Disappearing After Loading Checkpoints
DLC Weapons seem to disappear after loading the checkpoints in game for few people or after getting killed and checkpoint is auto loaded. Most probably will be fixed in the upcoming patch.
3# Dead Space 2 – Unable to Save Game (PC) Fix
It seems people are unable to save their progress using Save Stations. You go to save station as soon as you press E, it closes as if you pressed ESC to close it. Load the game back up and start it from the last point it actually let you save which may be the first save station way back in the beginning. Now much to your surprise every save station magically saves your progress.
4# Dead Space 2 Port Forwarding
You need to forward these ports in order to run the game properly online.
8088 – 28088
4# Dead Space 2 – Camera Bug Fix
The camera won’t stop sticking to the corner in the menu and will move in the same direction non-stop in-game. You need disable any controller connected to your PC. Go to Device Manager. Click the + next to Human Interface Devices. Right click the Controller, Select Disable and Accept.
5# Dead Space 2 – Can’t Connect to EA Servers
If you are experiencing problems connecting to EA Servers, make sure your internet outgoing data is not blocked by firewall or antivirus. Port Forward the required ports for playing Dead Space 2 online. And if all that fails, EA servers may be overloaded as we speak, so I say give them 2-3 days. Patience!
6# Dead Space 2 – Can’t Launch the Game
If you downloaded the game from Steam, and it is giving errors on launching the game. Like this file not found, can’t load this file etc. Verify the integrity of the game files and it will resolve this issue.
7# Dead Space 2 – Can’t Save or Access Pause Menu
Similar to Dead Space 2 save bug, you will be lucky if you resolve it by restarting from the last save. One thing though, it is happening with people who don’t frequently save the game.
8# Dead Space 2 – How to Change Mouse Sensitivity (Acceleration)
Find “settings.txt”. First enable your OS to show all files and then go to
C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\Dead Space
Now you will find Settings.txt which you can edit to increase or decrease the mouse sensitivity.
9# Dead Space 2 – Poor Frame Rates, and Stuttering
Try disabling Vsync and SLI/Crossfire, it will likely resolve the issue.
10# Dead Space 2 – Crashes on Desktop on Launch
Again, it is related to Human Interface Device.
- Start Menu>Control Panel>System and Maintenance>System>[Left Panel]Device Manager.
- Human Interface Devices [HID]
- Disable HID Compliant Game Controller
- Try disabling any other controller-like devices such as Logitech, or Jumi.
