Singularity Review, An Interesting Mix of Past and Present
You can think of many ideas while making games based on science fiction. We
have seen games like Bioshock and Time shift, which depict the possible future of science but are not close to reality. Similar concept has been used in Singularity, time travel and combat with mutants with some easy puzzles with different fun elements.
Game begins with an investigation on an Island named “Katorga-12″ where an unusual radiation signal was trapped by the US army. Research had been conducted there by the Russians during cold war in 1950s on an Element named “E-99″, which was supposed to be some sort of mysterious energy source.
They wanted to use it against Americans as they didn’t had much luck in Atomic energy. Things went wrong, everything was destroyed and the Russians halt the research.Well, you are not getting any new enemies, again its heroes Americans while Russians are the bad guys.
You will act as an US Air Force official named “Nate Renko” .Your objective is to find out the reason behind the anomaly on the Island. After sometime you get to know that there is a man named Nikolai, who is behind all this, and he is trying to start that operation again.
So your primary target in the game is to stop Nikolai from causing another catastrophe. To achieve your objective, you will be shifting between 1955(when the explosion took place) and the current date i.e 2010.You get a time device called TMD (Time Manipulation Device) which can be used either as a weapon or you can time travel using this device.
Old concepts have been renewed in this game, so you may feel that the gameplay hasn’t got anything that can actually excite you, after you have played the game for sometime. TMD plays anchor role in the game, you can use it as a weapon against your enemies like pushing them or just slowing them down and also use it as time device to time travel.
Using TMD can be fun or it can be a bizarre depending upon your taste. Combat intensity is impressive at certain points specially when you are up against the big boys. Small puzzles mostly related to TMD or others add a little more flavor to the game.
Graphics are good but thinking of Unreal Engine 3, they could do better. The Island presents some charming outlooks and cut scenes aren’t that bad.To me graphics aren’t the weakest point of the game.
Sound quality is descent, background music and the typical monster grudges are fascinating. If you are a big fan of FPS games then Singularity is a must try for you.
But if you do not like Bioshock or Half Life type games then this can get boring for you after a few hours of gameplay.Old copied gameplay is the weakest link of the game, overall its a slightly better FPS than average.
