Singularity Errors, Crashes, Sound Fix, FOV Fix, Freezes and Fixes

Singularity is a science fiction first person shooter developed by Raven Software. The game  is rip off of some of the games, we loved and enjoyed in the past, but still is a game worth playing. So to streamline your gaming experience and get you right into playing it without any issues, here is a fix guide of Singularity, which focuses on common errors and bugs in game with workarounds and some most sought-out tweaks.

1# Game Crashes When Loading The Checkpoint

Install DirectX and PhysX from the game DVD. If what you have on your system is, the newer version then the game, uninstall them both, and reinstall them from the game DVD. If it still doesn’t work, download and install the latest version of PhysX and DirectX.

2# Game Sound/Audio Very Low in Windows 7/Vista Mixer
When you start Singularity, it reduces the volume in Windows 7 mixer by 80%, its a driver override issue that arise in games using Unreal Engine. So you have to follow this guide below to fix the low sound volume.
1. Start Game.
2. [ALT] + [TAB]
3. Go to your system try by your clock and locate the icon that looks like a speaker.
4. Now, either right click on speaker and and chose “open volume mixer” or left click on it and click “mixer” underneath the volume slider.
5. You should now see Sigularity’s volume control, drag it up to the top.

Alternatively, go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Sound > Click on Communications Tab and select “Do Nothing” radio button and it will fix this issue, its a permanent fix.

3# Game Sound/Audio Low in Windows XP
While in XP, for those who are having the same issue of low sound volume, you can try reducing the hardware acceleration, or configure your speakers to Stereo.

4# Singularity Textures Not Loading Properly
Singularity sometimes doesn’t load textures properly when you are playing on very high resolution, resulting in low res texture areas. There is no workaround till now as this is due to the game engine, only thing you can do is, lower your resolution.

5# Singularity Game Doesn’t Save ?
There is no quick save in game, only checkpoints get to save, in case you are having problems saving your checkpoints. You can check your game save data, “c:\users\”your username”\My Documents\Singularity\RvGame\SaveData”.

6# Singularity Controls and Graphics Tweaking Manually
You can change the graphics, and controls from the registry editor, to do that go here “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Activision\Singularity”. You will see graphics and other options on the right side of the window.

7# Singularity Config Settings “How to Edit Config Files”
Singularity is an UE3 game, so by default should have config settings. Yes, it does have config settings but they are not visible. Go to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Activision\Singularity” and you will find .ini with all the config options.

8# Singularity “How to Change FOV”
Singularity .ini file in registry doesn’t have any option where you can edit your field of view in game. So we are left with a workaround, that is, add a “DWORD” key named “FieldOfView” with a value in Decimals, it is the only way currently to change the default field of view.

9# Singularity Texture Streaming Issues
Singularity has the worst texture streaming shortcomings of any game that has been developed on Unreal Engine 3. If you are among those who are facing these issues, you can check this workaround to resolve these issues until official patch is released.

10# Singularity Crashes to Desktop
If your game crashes to desktop from time to time, update your graphic card drivers, reinstall DirectX and PhysX. If the problem persists, try running the game from the shortcut, not from the game folder executable.

11# Nothing Happens When I Run Singularity
If you click on Singularity executable and nothing happens. Right click on the executable, go to properties, and select the compatibility tab, tick Run in Compatibility Mode ” and select “Windows XP Service Pack 2″.

12# Singularity Mouse Issues
If you are facing problems with mouse movements, disconnect any game controllers connected to your system and relaunch the game.

Enjoy the game.

I played the game Nicely Without any problems until I reached a certain area where you have to put on mask and go underground.

The Game now crashes every time whenever I tried to pass a certain area.
It crash to desktop displaying the following error:

My problem is that every time I die the game locks up at the fade out. Got any ideas?

      • William

I have the same problem. Whenever I die in the game, it freezes at fade out. I have to go to my task manager and end the game. It shows that it’s not responding. It is agravating to no end. Anyone got any ideas??? I can’t find any answers online. Please e-mail me a solution. propsner1@hotmail.com
        Thanks.

Am I the only one who cannot upgrade my guns clip size? None of them show larger clips even though my upgrades are used up. I have to rely on higher dammge instead, at least those show as longer than before in the guns particulars. Vista 64 bit, could that be the problem?

I have googled the error and no one seems that have asked about this issue.

Jesus freaking Christ, everybody knows that this game still don’t have any WORKING FOV FIX

    • Apekiller

The FOV fix doesn’t work dude. Let me say it again in case I wasn’t clear enough:

      FOV FIX IS NOT WORKING

For those who crash during appstart because of “kernalbase.dll” (aka crash to desktop) try right clicking your ccc (ati in the bottom right corner) and change your Anti-aliasing to “application managed”, change your anisotropic filtering to “application managed” and make sure your openGL settings triple buffering is NOT checked.
You can find all these settings under 3D settings.

Also run from desktop and run as administrator. you can also Win key + R and start it with the run sekvense. Hope this helps :)

      I used Win 7 xfx HD 4890 and a quad core (8200)

Make sure your game is not broken, its a possible solution to the problem, factors can be so many. Start the game if it doesn’t load, go to task manager>processes> and kill the process and try again.

If you are on Windows XP SP 3, I would like to know which dot net framework you are on. If you are on 1.1, then also install its associated hotfix. Or just try updating the .Net Framework. If you already have an updated .Net Framework installed on your system, try reinstalling it.

If you have the game on Steam, launch it via Steam rather then its own executable.

I believe you have latest directX and Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime libraries, you can download them from here.

Again everything I have mentioned is just a probable fix…I hope it resolves your issue. Its really frustrating when a game does something like that.

PS. I run the game on my brother’s PC (XP SP3) with updated direct X and these installed. Ran fine without any issue.
        .Net Framework 2.0 SP3
        .Net Framework 3.0 SP2
        .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
        Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime 2005
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime 2008 ( three different versions were installed ‘x86 9.0….’)

        Hope this helps…

My issue is that I cannot see the 1920×1200 option in my resolution settings for the game. So I am hoping to make this change in the config file. I access that through the registry… I suppose. I will let you guys know how it works out.

    • http://segmentnext.com Zawad Iftikhar

The only reason for this as far as I can think of is, game is broken or corrupted.

Try reloading the previous checkpoint and play from their onwards. Or back up your saved data and reinstall the game. Your saved data is found here “c:\users\”your username”\My Documents\Singularity\RvGame\SaveData”.

    • Kaeler

Well, my problem here isn’t listed.
What happens is that whenever i play in the E99 Proccessing Complex, the game, ONLY the game, freezes. I can still use any other things, but not the game.

Then the only way to close it is by killing the proccess in the system administrator.

Help me, please, because i like this game.
