Activision disappointed many FPS fans as there was no dedicated server
support for Modern Warfare 2 and the game itself is a console port to PC. Despite of all the controversies, Modern Warfare 2 is still being played by many PC gamers around the globe.

Important
Its important that your game client is updated to the latest version.I recommend that you uninstall your previous copy of the game and reinstall it and then replace the updated files given below.
Step 1
You need to download MW2 client, download it from here.
Step 2
Once you have downloaded the files, extract them to the main directory of Modern Warfare 2. By default it is “C:\Program Files\Activision\Modern Warfare 2\”. You can also copy the files after extracting the zipped folder and paste them to the main directory of Modern Warfare 2 folder, Overwrite the files when asked.
Step 3
Once you have put the files successfully, execute the file named “alterIWnet_configure.exe” and write your name in it. Save the changes and close the file.
Step 4
Now launch iw4mp.exe to play the game, It’s that simple. If you are experiencing any problems then check FAQ for your answers or mention them in the comments, alternatively give a visit to AlterIW.
FAQ (Frequently asked questions)
Getting error “patch_mp.ff is different from the server”.
It’s obvious that all players don’t have the files exactly matching with each other. It happens sometimes that extractors like WinZip or 7z miss some files during extraction or they are corrupted. So the solutions is that you re extract the files in the root directory.
On running iw4mp.exe under Windows XP, nothing happens.
The most probable reason for this is faulty sound drivers.Update them to the latest or you can do the following configuration:
- Open regedit (Start -> Run “regedit”).
- Find this directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
- Delete key “aux1″ or rename to something else, there must only be “aux”.
On entering the game, it says my NAT is restricted.
This is is due to some ports blocking NAT.So the following ports must be opened to play the game.
- 1500 – UDP
- 3005 – UDP
- 3101 – UDP
- 13000 – TCP
Games crashes
Your game can crash due to following reasons
- You don’t have VC Redistributables .NET Framework 3.5.Install these to avoid the crashes.
- You have the game version other than English language.Other languages are not supported.
- Your PC don’t have sufficient memory. Try running the game after 1 or 2 minutes or closing other applications.
Happy Fragging..
